Shingle Blending System
Minarik - Val Add was asked to aid a major composition shingle manufacturer to replace the pneumatically operated blender gates. The blender gates controlled the amount of granules dropped onto the web passing under. The amount to open and duration are based on line speed. The customer was having to replace all the pneumatics about every 6 months. Minarik worked very closely with the customer to specify a 6kW Yaskawa Servo drive with an integral Yaskawa MP940 motion controller. Minarik performed the programming of the drives and starting the system up so that the servos interfaced with the system without any major modifications. The result is a servo system that runs in a very hot and dirty environment 24/7 without any downtime or significant system maintenance. The servo system is so accurate and repeatable that there is no noticeable variation from lot to lot. A Minarik technician is onsite for each start-up to assist in the final integration and trouble shooting.
Minarik Val Add aided a major composition shingle manufacturer upgrade their blending system. The blending system is composed of a various number of silos containing different colored granules and servo drive valves to allow the granules to drop onto a conveyor. The old system utilized an old Yaskawa controller that was being phased out. The new panels incorporated the new Yaskawa MP940 Motion controller and 200W Yaskawa Sigma II servo drives and motors with absolute encoders. The system is able to precisely open each valve to the correct position for each blend. The result produces a very repeatable blend of granule colors for delivery to the blender system. Minarik supports this customer on the start-ups and integration.
